According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), coaching is, “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”
Coaches often specialize in an area such as: life coaching, executive leadership coaching, health and wellness coaching or career coaching. For a health and wellness coach the focus centers on enhancing and preserving a person’s well-being.
As coaches, we view clients as whole, resourceful, and capable of change who do not need to be fixed or repaired, but instead might need assistance in areas of their life.
This in in contrast to the “expert model” that has traditionally been directive and therapeutic. The client-centered model respects and honors the client as the expert in his or her own life.
Coaches support clients in their own self-discovery and movement toward self-directed goals that are in alignment with their values and vision for the future.
